Welcome to Cross Country and Tennis for the 2012/2013 season.  I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to coach two wonderful sports and work with the people who are associated with them.  I am looking forward to the start of both sports and hoping for the best from each students I come in contact with.  As I begin to think about the coming season, below are a few things I would like you to keep in mind. 

Cross Country Season for 2012

  The actual start date for the season will begin August 6th, 4:00, at the college. Cross Country participants and anyone who wants to run, will meet at the college July 9th 2012 at 9:00 to work on building distance and conditioning. For more details, contact Coach Rooks via phone or email.

Physicals and Consent Forms

Physicals and Consent forms are due in Coach Rooks' office  Monday, August 6th.

Things to work on before 1st  practice:

  • Distance running...increasing each run by 5-10 minutes each week.
  • Creating a stronger upper body and core area strength
  • Better Flexibility...make sure quads, hamstrings and hips are stretched before and after each run.

Important Weekend Dates to remember:

  • August 25-Savannah XC Kickoff Classic             8:00 am
  • November 3-Region Tournament-Richmond Hill     TBA
  • November 10-State Tournament-Carrollton Ga.    TBA

 

The Tennis Season will begin January 14th 2013

Physicals and Consent forms are due in Coach Rooks' office no later than January 7th.

Things to work on prior to 1st day of practice:

  • Serves- 1st and 2nd serve....make your serve a weapon
  • Volleys- beable to volley anywhere on the court
  • Overheads- inside the service court line...beable to finish the point
  • Groundstrokes-directional hitting and consistency is what makes winners
