Ground broken at new Brunswick High School site

Glynn County Board of Education members and school system administrators joined with community, business and education leaders to officially break ground at the site of the new Brunswick High School on Thursday, April 12.

Located on 55 acres facing Altama Avenue in Brunswick, site of the former Jane Macon Middle School and adjacent to the current Brunswick High School, the new 349,000-square-foot school is scheduled to open in January 2014. With a capacity of 2,000 students, the new Brunswick High School will feature a two-story design with masonry exterior construction, an interior courtyard, geothermal heating and air-conditioning systems, a 2,000-seat gymnasium and a 500-seat auditorium. The estimated turn-key cost of the project is $57 million and is funded by revenues from the school system’s second Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or ESPLOST, that was approved by the voters of Glynn County in November 2009.

The new Brunswick High School was designed by John A. Tuten & Associates, Architects, of Brunswick, Ga.; Elkins Constructors, Jacksonville, Fla./Savannah, Ga., is the construction management company.
