Caring Students Have a Heart for Heroes

First graders recently took action by sending caring Valentine's wishes to troops serving active duty at Fort Stewart in nearby Hinesville.

Under the guidance of their teachers, first graders used their communication skills to express their thanks to troops for their service to our country. Students creatively used the Valentine's theme to express appreciation. When the photos for this slideshow were taken, a hush of concentrated and sincere effort had fallen on each classroom.

A number of wounded warriors and warriors-in-transition from the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars are in long-term rehabilitation at the Warrior's Transition Battalion at Fort Stewart. Students hope that their Valentine messages will lift the spirts of these troops and others stationed there.

We thank LTC Buck Bennett, U.S. Army, and Joni Bennett for helping our first graders with this event.
