(Note: See Related Files below for School Attendance Zones List and Maps)
All schools are divided by geographical territorial zones. These zones are set up by the administration with the approval of the Board of Education. Children who live within a school’s geographical zone will attend that school. Such zones may vary from year to year, depending upon housing patterns and shifting populations.
Students must attend the school for which they are zoned unless Out-of-Zone attendance has been approved. However, high school students will be allowed to remain in the high school they are attending if they have met promotion requirements to enter an 11th-grade homeroom. In those cases, students will be eligible to remain in high school for the completion of their high school career with full privileges, including performance eligibility, as long as they maintain the requirements as set forth in the Georgia High School Association. Permissive transfers from one high school to another do not carry eligibility with the Georgia High School Association.
Elementary and middle school students and high school freshmen and sophomores who move into a new school zone before the end of the first semester must move to the school for which their new address is zoned. Students who move into a new school zone during the second semester may be granted administrative approval to remain in their current school until the end of the school year. Application for Out-of-Zone attendance may then be made for the following school year.
Approval for Out-of-Zone attendance will be considered as long as there is classroom space available at the requested school after the assigned students have been enrolled. The school system may deny a transfer based on a lack of capacity to ensure adequate space for students who are provided provisions under federal law (e.g. students transferring from needs improvement or unsafe schools under the No Child Left Behind law, or students with disabilities whose Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Individualized Accommodation Plan (IAP) calls for placement at a particular school).
Any student who has been granted permission to attend a school not in the student’s attendance zone cannot be transported by school bus. (Parent or guardian must provide transportation.)
All full-time employees will be allowed to enroll their own children at their school of employment or its associated feeder schools. APPLICATION WINDOW: January 1 - February 28, 2014

APPLICATION WINDOW: January 1 - February 28, 2014
All Grade Levels (K-12)
All schools are bounded by geographical zones established by the district administration and approved by the Glynn County Board of Education. Students who live within a school’s geographical zone will attend that school.
Application for out-of-zone placement must be made annually during the application window; students who are currently attending school out of zone must reapply for next school year. Transportation will not be provided for out-of-zone placements and schools are not required to provide services stipulated under an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Individualized Accommodation Plan (IAP) if those services are not available at the requested school. Space must be available in the grade level at the requested school.
Out-of-zone transfer requests must be submitted to the Glynn County Schools Administrative Offices at 1313 Egmont Street in Brunswick or faxed to 912-280-6757. The application is available at the Administrative Offices or can be downloaded under "Related Files" at the bottom of this page. Applications must be received or postmarked by Friday, February 28. After that date, out-of-zone transfer requests will be considered only under hardship circumstances from new residents of Glynn County who are requesting placement at a school that has classroom space available.
Parents must present the out-of-zone application form to the principal of the school for which their residence is currently zoned. Principals from both the zoned school and the requested school will review the application; however, final approval of the request will be determined by district administration.
Parents will be notified by mail if their out-of-zone transfer request was approved or denied. If the request is denied, an appeal may be made by submitting a letter in writing to:
Office of the Superintendent
Glynn County Schools
1313 Egmont Street
Brunswick, GA 31520
The appeal letter must be received by March 21, 2014 and should include specific reasons why the denial should be reconsidered. The final determination on appeals will be announced by the end of March.
Out-of-zone placement can be revoked if the student does not display acceptable behavior, academic performance and attendance.
After February 28, 2014, district administration will consider out-of-zone requests from new families moving into the district only in cases of extreme hardship. The requested school must have available space.
Elementary school students, middle school students and high school freshmen and sophomore students who move into a new school zone before the end of the first semester must attend the school for which their new address is zoned. Such students who move into a new school zone during the second semester may be granted administrative approval to remain in their current school until the end of the current school year. Application for out-of-zone attendance may then be made for the following school year.
Out-of-zone placement can be revoked if the student does not display acceptable behavior, academic performance and attendance. Out-of-zone application must be renewed each school year based on the circumstance noted above. The district will not provide transportation for out-of-zone students.
Out-of-zone requests will be considered for students who wish to participate in a program that is not offered at the student’s zoned school (e.g. IB Diploma program, military-based program or other academic/extracurricular program). Extreme hardship circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
An out-of-zone transfer could impact athletic eligibility; therefore, parents of students involved in athletics should consult with the district athletic director before requesting an out-of-zone placement. While the Glynn County School System can approve out-of-zone attendance, eligibility for high school athletics is determined by the Georgia High School Association (GHSA). GHSA decisions regarding eligibility are final and can be appealed only to the GHSA.
High school students will be allowed to remain in the high school they are attending if their parents or guardians move out of that school’s attendance zone after the completion of the sophomore year and the student is eligible to enter an 11th- or 12th-grade homeroom. In those cases, students will be eligible to remain in that high school for the completion of their high school career.
The district will not provide transportation for out-of-zone students.
