Carter Akins, Principal
Carter Akins was appointed as principal of Oglethorpe Point Elementary in 2012. He began his educational career at C.B. Greer Elementary where he was a classroom teacher, Instructional Coach, IB Coordinator for the Primary Years Programme, and Assistant Principal. Akins was instrumental in C.B. Greer Elementary becoming an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program by facilitating the trainings and other requirements necessary for the school to carry that title. Akins is a graduate of the 2010 – 2011 Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement “Rising Stars” and holds many other certifications, endorsements, and trainings that he uses to enhance the instructional program at OPES. He was also featured as one of Glynn County’s “20 Under 40” community leaders in 2009. Akins is a graduate of the University of Georgia where he earned a B.A. in English. He completed requirements for teacher certification at Armstrong Atlantic State University and holds a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Georgia Southern University. Akins is excited to be an Oglethorpe Point Elementary Osprey.
Dorothy Antic, Assistant Principal
Dorothy Antic, Assistant Principal, assumed her role in 2009 having previously served as Instructional Coach, classroom teacher, Early Intervention Program teacher, and Gifted Resource teacher at Oglethorpe Point Elementary. Antic holds a B.S. in Elementary Education and Fashion Retailing at Purdue University. She earned a M.Ed. from Troy State University and an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from Nova University. Antic is a graduate of the 2010 – 2011 Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement “Rising Stars” and has participated in many trainings that benefit students, teachers, and parents at OPES. She observes and evaluates teachers, oversees organizational aspects of the school in regards to student safety, and manages The Osprey NEST, the after-school program at Oglethorpe Point Elementary. Antic enjoys working with students, teachers, and parents to help make OPES a great school.

Faye Barnett, Instructional Coach
Faye Barnett is the Instructional Coach and in her sixteenth year at Oglethorpe Point Elementary. She holds a B.S. in Early Childhood Education from the University of Alabama and a M.Ed. in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Science, Social Science, and Language Arts from Oglethorpe University. Before coming to Oglethorpe Point Elementary, Barnett enjoyed ten years of teaching second, third, fourth, and sixth grades in Dekalb County. During her tenure at Oglethorpe Point, Barnett has taught third, fourth and fifth grades as well as grades first through fifth in the Early Intervention Program and Gifted Resource. In 2011, she was promoted to Instructional Coach and began extensive work in facilitating teachers’ understanding of Common Core. Barnett enjoys all matters of curriculum, particularly as it relates to working with and supporting educators to improve student achievement.
